20 Oct If You connect it, protect it: cybersecurity awareness month
Since 2004, the National Cybersecurity Alliance and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (in previous years – U.S. Department of Homeland Security) have recognized the month of October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month in an effort to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online. It’s a collaborative effort between government and industry that is crucial to cybersecurity awareness among the public.
This year’s theme is “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart” which encourages individuals and organizations to own their role in protecting their part of cyberspace. Frontier Technologies President and CEO, Reshma Moorthy, agrees. “Whether at home or at the office, understanding how to protect yourself online is critical. When organizations and individuals work together to implement strong security practices, the interconnected world becomes safer for all. FTI is proud to be a part of the nationwide, proactive effort to create a safer cyber environment”.
At a minimum, individuals should protect their online information and secure all systems and devices they use. As the 2020 slogan goes, “If You Connect It, Protect It.”. Implementing cybersecurity safety measures doesn’t always mean you need to hire a professional. We’ve outlined 5 tips from NCSA that you can start today.
